"We were all blazed one night at a Board Meeting when we came up with the name" said Hiller who admits he's not even quite sure what it means.
The controversy has only strengthened Hiller's view that the Council is critical to the success of the industry, "we have tried every possible way to help this industry sell product and the idea of polar ice caps melting and water sweeping down your street taking your family away is a pretty powerful image for the consumer" said an exhuberant Hiller who admits the Council isn't exactly sure where the polar ice caps are located.
News about the Council was no surprise to most manufacturers, "truth is we don't know where the polar ice caps are either" said a furniture executive who spoke on a condition of anonymity but declared that "his company practically invented pollution in China."
The Sustainable Furnishings Council maintains several tiers of participation or 'eco-mmitments,' "another phrase we coined" said Hiller. The Council credits Broyhill for the multiple participation tiers. Memberships start at $1,500 annually for 'silver' participation.
